As mentioned in
a previous post, I'll be spending some time in Alaska this summer. As Artist-in-Residence, I will be collecting postcards from hikers on the trail and turning them into short animated films. Each postcard will have a message written by a hiker to his or her future self and will be mailed to the writer one year later. When we translate our experiences through a physical, creative act we solidify our memories of the journey, not only on paper, but in the neurological connections in our brains as well. The emotions and resolutions we experience so strongly in a wilderness setting, fade once we return to our daily routines. The postcard, when it is recieved a year later, thus becomes a 2 dimensional portal into a 3-dimensional memory.
